Keep It Simple For Young Birders

For ages 5 to 10, you do not need detailed identification. Focus on:

• Colors: brown, black, grey, bright (red, blue, yellow).
• Sizes: tiny, small, medium, large.
• Behaviors: hopping on the ground, flying between branches, swimming.

Mini Birding Challenges

You can add quick tasks during your quest or walk:

• Spot one bird on the ground and one bird in a tree.
• Listen silently for 20 seconds and count how many bird sounds you hear.
• Choose a “guardian bird” that your child thinks is watching over the park.

These moments slow the pace just enough for everyone to catch their breath.
